In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a technique by which the egg is fertilized with the sperm outside the mother’s body. IVF is the main treatment for infertility when other methods of assisted reproduction have not been successful. The process involves the hormonal control of the ovulation process, extracting one or several oocytes from the maternal ovaries and fertilizing them with sperm in a liquid medium. The fertilized oocyte (which is also known aspreembryo) can then be transferred to the uterus of the woman, in order settle in the uterus and continues its development until birth.
